Review: Sony builds, true to form, on their Z-series. But despite the exquisite design and great features Sony just before the finish line stumbles.
How we follow up on a star? On URmobilsiden.dks editors were there unanimous enthusiasm for Sony’s star Mobile for autumn-Xperia Z3. But since the success competition is sharpened, especially Apple and Samsung have put out all the stops to convince consumers.
But Sony sleeps not on laur bæerne, as with the previous Z-mobiles featuring the Japanese IT giant on upgrades in a frenetic pace. Which typically goes for a year between each topmobil with the competitors, will be each Z-mobile replaced every six months.
Sony’s latest bid at a flagship however, Z4 name, for scrap instead to add a small plus as it is now called Z3+. It is limited in how many revolutions there can be reached in a half a year, which is why Sony Z3+ as an upgrade that can live side by side with the Z3 in the product catalog.
The question then is whether or not the Z3+ can live up to its distinguished predecessor? Mobilsiden.dk investigates the matter.

One should not change a team that WINS – and Sony’s design team has not felt the great need to change in Z3’erens fine design. Do you take error of Z3 and Z3+ in the store are you forgiven – they look like each other so much.
The targets are almost unchanged, and although Sony has shaved 0, 4 mm in thickness and 8 grams of weight is the experience of the two phones are virtually identical. Weight and profile reduction means, however, that the Z3+ isn’t nearly as fast as its predecessor twisting. Buy copper or ‘ aqua green ‘ variant you will only distinguish them on the slightly lighter color.
The design is unchanged is a good thing, because you get a relatively large display at 5.2 inch wrapped in a beautiful and waterproof sandwich of glass and aluminum. The back is still in the glass, and hence the wee slippery on some surfaces, luckily, every corner reinforced with vinylbumpers acting shock absorber by bumps and bruises.
Yet Sony has incorporated some good ideas in plusseren. Most interesting, and especially useful, is that micro-USB port now no longer hides behind a door. You release the reason for having to fight with the small gates every time to be charged up. Nice.
Zoom in on the design you will also note that Sony Z3+ seems more stylish. It is because there is now only one door where the door to both micro-SD and nano-SIM hiding. Small holes to the jack plug, micro-USB and microphones are tucked well out of the way at the top or the bottom, while the aluminum frame is more shiny.
Last subtle and refined detail is that the front-facing speakers now disappears, hidden in a chute just off the frame. Although they now are stored out of the way, they make good shape by playing louder and clearer than in its predecessor. The higher sound pressure gets, however, the entire phone to quiver, and compared to HTC’s One lydspecialist is still a class below.
The promises, however, everything together Z3+ and ends with the impression that rise above the otherwise so pretty Z3’er. It’s just a delicious case.
Nice, bright display
The beautiful exterior is accompanied by an equally lavish display. It is again a 5.2 inch display with Full HD resolution and thus not infinite sharply as Samsung and LG’s quad HD-alternatives. On a daily basis, however, I notice no differences.
So I am more crazy about monitor’s ability to flare up. Summer and sunshine waves soon over the land and update of the Panel for a brighter variant is therefore well timed.
Z3+ however, of the same penchant for suffer bluish tones. White looks very shiny, but it does, at the same time that your photos and movies suffer from a bluish tint. Fortunately, you can correct the color balance inside the display settings.
Do you look away from the little appeal, it is an excellent display Sony has turned down in Z3+. The contrast is higher than ever, the colors are saturated and the viewing angles are wide. This is, quite simply, Sony’s best display to date.
Oversized power plant
We look away from the exterior, which resembles itself, is there a part new finding in the engine room on the Z3+. Here it is Qualcomm’s latest top-chip Snapdragon 810 that fluctuates as the stick with 8 processor cores.
The chip has been a problem child since it debuted in LG G Flex 2 and has since found its way to HTC One M9. Problems has proved to be a massive heat generation, who have had unfortunate consequences for performance and power consumption.
Sony Xperia Z3+ is also not entirely free of småskavanker due to the processor. On paper, the powerful processor 2.0 GHz, Tinderbox race with, but to keep the heat at Bay is the actual frequency choked down to 1.6 GHz. Like in HTC One M9.
This does not mean, however, that the Z3+ is somewhat blunt acquaintance, quite the contrary. With 3 GB RAM, Android 5.0 Lollipop and the latest 64-bit architecture’s power surplus to present. It ensures everything from fast and smooth performance in games, apps — even when you multitask.
Sometimes squints, however, to rein in the forces. For example, I experienced that at 4 k footage with digital stabilization had to phone take a rest by stopping the video after some minutes to cool down.
It also goes beyond the power company when many cores unfolds. When Sony simultaneously reduces battery capacity by 6 percent compared to the Z3, unwilling to live up to Sony’s promise of 2 days of run time.
In fact, you should probably not count on more than half’s daily operation with the Z3+. It will row for most, but it is unfortunately no longer any marathon runner as its predecessor.
A similar decline is experienced when 3D games are settled. Where Z3 could blow around the game as Real Racing 3 in 4 ½ hour, must the Z3+ give up about three quarter earlier.
Sony integrates, however, continued their excellent Stamina mode that understands that extend the operating time by screwing down the right places, without noticeably over the experience.
By charger supports Z3+ now quick-charge 2.0, which means that you can tanks from 0 to 53% in one hour or all the way up on the button 2 ½ hour. It does not live up to Sony’s claim a day’s power in 45 minutes, but is a small step forward compared to the Z3.
We are against the software in Z3+, who dug deep before there is real news. Like as its predecessor runs Android 5.0.2 Lollipop and all apps, icons, system settings, is virtually unchanged.
It is there not something wrong with as such. Sony’s Lollipop-software is a fresh and colorful interface, which offers large clear icons and clear menus.
Z3+ inherits the same time good, usable features like a brilliantly adaptable keyboard, practical mini-apps and useful menus. And certain apps like the digital logbook, Lifelog, is worth spending-also on other mobiles.
However, not everything is just completed. I’m not crazy about the Sony widgets, for they are visually overloaded and fiddling, therefore, on the home screen. Fortunately, these can easily be uninstalled. Sony is also equally valid liberally with the included software – and these apps can not be removed.
The only news I could track is in camera app which now houses some new special modes for, among other things, madfotografering and selfies. This option is quickly forgotten, but I am glad, however, that the picture-preview now is far more fluid. It makes it easier to catch the right moment, when shooting.
And that brings us to the camera. It is the same ambitious Association of pixel-richness and bright optics like Sony introduce with Xperia Z1 for a year and a half ago.
At the time, was 20 megapixels and f/2.0 lens ahead of its time, but komboen are now starting to show old people’s characters.
The optics aren’t completely deliver the sharpness as a 20 megapixel sensor deserves, and even if Samsung and LG’s cameras with 16 megapixel on the paper delivers fewer pixels, manages Sony Z3+ does not completely match the spring topmobil on the details and dynamics.
Sony has also not integrated any optical image stabilization in this place. The lack, for the digital stabilization is not nearly as competent as the alternatives with Samsung, Apple and LG.
However, this does not mean that the Z3+ doesn’t take good photos. It delivers still colorful results that will please most, both in daylight and in darkness. There are just better mobile cameras out there.
The same objections can be addressed against Sony’s camera app has now been unchanged for the last two years. It is still powerful, but oddly divided into many small apps, each with its own function as Full auto, Panorama, 4 k-optagelsee, AR-fun, night footage and many more.
A simple novelty of the Z3+ is however worth highlighting. Sony Z3+ is the first cell that occupy in the future h. 265 format, a format which is extremely efficient to compress the data. Your 4 k videos and Full HD movie will therefore have the same quality as in the past, but will fill the half. The downside though is that the format is so new that it’s not supported anywhere yet.
This is good news for video enthusiasts, for at the same time, expanded storage space to get Z3+ 32 GB, so you can capture loose – provided that it does not overheat.
Last camera news is to be found on the front lines where selfie now get 5 megapixel camera and RS technology. It gives even the portraits a much needed boost.
Two steps forward and one step back
Sony Z-series has been through many developments since the first Z-mobile was in two years ago. It is still a wonderful waterproof size with a design that only gets better.
At each upgrade Sony took care to refine and improve your phone for it to last, culminating in the utter Z3’er in autumn.
This time, however, to let the team behind the phone did not have the whole picture in mind. By integrating an oversized mechanics in the phone is the phone was faster, but at the cost of Z3’erens greatest quality: the operating time.
Fortunately, While Sony begins to fall behind competitors in camera technology. It does not stand in a cell for more than 5 thousand dollars.
It is perhaps for this reason that Sony sees a need to lure buyers with a good offer to the quick. Pre-order you a Xperia Z3+ includes the for an action-cam to a value of 2,000.0-crowns. A quote that makes Z3+ something more appealing.
But only considered brings Z3+ not enough new, and when at the same time losing terrain to its predecessor on the battery so smoking top mark. We therefore on lands 5 out of 6 stars.
